Mia Simmons creates pieces consisting of everyday scenes reflecting emotions attached to the moment. Using oil paint, she creates movement and texture with brushstrokes to convey vivid themes of emotions. Approaching the subjects as a vessel, paint is used as a way to communicate with the viewer. Commonplace objects are often overlooked and taken for granted, but are essential to our lives. An emotional attachment to an object may be related to a certain memory, with a positive or negative emotion attached. Her influences include Edward Hopper, Keith Haring, and David Hockney. She currently attends Louisiana State University to obtain a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Studio Arts.
